After getting the go-ahead in January last year, the sequel to 1997 comedy “Romy and Michele’s High School Reunion” is finally filming with shooting having kicked off in Los Angeles this past Friday.
Mira Sorvino and Lisa Kudrow reprise their starring roles in the 20th Century Studios film and serve as executive producers while Tim Federle (“Better Nate Than Never,” “High School Musical: The Musical: The Series”) directs.
In the original, the pair played two unaccomplished women who try to impress their former classmates at their 10th anniversary high school reunion by making up fake careers. The title became a cult hit in the years since.
Their lie? They invented Post-its. Janeane Garofalo, Alan Cumming, Julia Campbell, and Camryn Manheim all return from the original while Keegan-Michael Key, Rob Huebel, Breckin Meyer, Patrick Warburton and Nathan Lee Graham join the cast.
“Emily in Paris” showrunner Robin Schiff, who wrote the original film, has returned to pen the sequel. Laurence Mark and Barry Kemp also produce.
The sequel will stream exclusively as a Hulu Original on Hulu in the U.S. and Disney+ internationally.
