Despite earlier reports to the contrary,Variety has now confirmed Tom Hardy has not been fired from Guy Ritchie’s “MobLand” TV series.

Rumours have been swirling for a week that the actor would not return for a third season, with talk alleging he clashed with two producers and was tardy onset spreading across multiple trades.

Now, sources for the trade have confirmed discussions are underway to find a way for Hardy to come back as his Harry Da Souza character: “Tom was not fired, the door is not closed for Season 3 and things are being worked through creatively.” Another source tells them: “I’m sure Guy is probably pushing David Glasser to make it work. Guy likes working with Tom.”

The trade says the “tensions were real” regarding those reports about issues between Hardy, showrunner Jez Butterworth and producer David Glasser but that the trio are “currently trying to resolve their creative differences”.

The third season is slated to go into production this Fall with Pierce Brosnan and Helen Mirren also returning. Ritchie is an executive producer and directed a number of episodes across both seasons.

Their sources claim it came down to Butterworth delivering scripts as late as one just a week before shooting, which clashed with Hardy who likes to prepare and rehearse. Butterworth was also not present on set to deal with script issues as they arose, leading to difficulty when Hardy requested the occasional script change.

One source suggests Butterworth may be spread too thin – he’s also working on Paramount+ series “The Agency” and Sam Mendes’ upcoming Beatles biopics. When Ritchie was directing episodes, he had the authority to fix a script on the fly and so it wasn’t an issue. When other directors took over, it became more problematic.
