Xbox has rebranded itself… to XBOX. Following a survey of nearly 20,000 people, Xbox CEO Asha Sharma has announced that the all caps spelling of the brand won the vote over the usual first letter capitalisation – and now the company has rebranded its official social media channels into all caps. When asked for comment by The Verge, Microsoft directed readers back to Sharma’s poll on X.
Doctor Who
AMC+ has officially acquired the exclusive U.S. streaming rights to “Doctor Who,” the streamer picking up all 13 seasons of the revived series prior to its Disney+ era, along with its special episodes (176 episodes total). The episodes will launch starting June 11th. The announcement marks the first time in years that the complete revival era will be widely available on a major U.S. streaming platform.
American Psycho
Helen Lee-Kim, Lionsgate President of International, has confirmed that Luca Guadagnino’s reimagining of the infamous novel “American Psycho” is still chugging along: “We’ll hopefully have a script for that later in the year.” Scott Z. Gold Mountain
Chedi Chang (“The Resident”), Sophia Xu (“Beef”), Yao (“Sinners”), Zine Tseng (“Young Sherlock”), and Owen Teague (“IT”) are set to star in the Oscar-winning filmmaker Ang Lee’s new Gold Rush-era Western “Gold Mountain,” an adaptation of C. Pam Zhang’s debut 2020 novel “How Much of These Hills Is Gold”.
The story follows two newly orphaned Chinese immigrant children as they cross a brutal California frontier to bury their father and free themselves from their past. Pulitzer Prize finalist Chang-rae Lee adapted the script and filming has begun in Northern California. [Source: The Playlist]
The Mongoose
Samuel Goldwyn Films has acquired the Liam Neeson-led action thriller “The Mongoose” which opens this Fall. Thompson Evans penned the script and Mark Vanselow directs.
Neeson plays a war hero who, accused of a crime he didn’t commit and with nothing to lose, leads police on an epic televised cross-country car chase. Marisa Tomei, Ving Rhames and Michael Chiklis co-star. [Source: Screen]
CHUM
IFC has premiered the trailer for the shark film “Chum” which hits both cinemas and on demand on June 5th.
Alice Eve leads the cast of the film in which a dream destination wedding in Malta explodes into chaos when a bloodthirsty shark attacks and a sinister fisherman with a hidden agenda turns the celebration into a deadly trap.
