HBO has seemingly pulled all copies of its “Lanterns” teaser trailer from its various channels, including the HBO, HBO Max, and DC YouTube/social media platforms.
The sudden removal has led to questions regarding this action, especially as no formal explanation has been made regarding the decision.
Some think it was due to the rather mixed reception the trailer received when it first debuted. Others have put it down to a possible music licensing issue as the clip used a remix of Springsteen’s “State Trooper”.
That said, the trailer remains in circulation, including unofficial online channels, third-party YouTube channels like MovieFone, and even DC Studios co-chief James Gunn’s social media accounts. Marketing for the show continues with a new still released today via Screen Rant.
The teaser made headlines shortly after release when the criticism about the muted colour palette and tone led, while writer Damon Lindelof publicly apologised for remarks about the “green” in Green Lantern being stupid.
The series follows new recruit John Stewart and Lantern legend Hal Jordan, two intergalactic cops drawn into a dark, earth-based mystery as they investigate a murder in the American heartland.
Kyle Chander, Aaron Pierre, Kelly Macdonald, Garret Dillahunt, Poorna Jagannathan, Nicole Ari Parker, Jason Ritter, J. Alphonse Nicholson, and Jasmine Cephas Jones star in the series, which premieres in August.
