DC Studios chief James Gunn indicates that the planned “The Authority” movie seems to have stalled in development.

Popping up on Threads recently, he says the script “wasn’t quite there” and, more importantly, it “doesn’t work in terms of the larger DCU both in terms of the story and practical concerns”.

As a result, the film is in a holding pattern – “Maybe some day. Not soon”. He also shot down long-running talk that he would write/direct the project, saying: “I would have never had time to do this, and although I know this is a popular theory online, I never had an intention of writing or directing The Authority.”

Gunn did offer more hopeful updates on some other DCU films, saying both “Booster Gold” and “Paradise Lost” remain in development, he watched animatics for both “Creature Commandos” second season and “Mister Miracle” this weekend.

He also confirms he and Peter Safran already have an idea as to what the next DCU movie will be after “Man of Tomorrow”, and the studio overall is currently keeping a similar pace to “95% of scripts and shows that get made”.

Gunn is presently busy shooting “Man of Tomorrow” and says: “I’m having a blast.”

An apparent casting call on Reddit indicates a mother and two children are being sought to portray a biracial family with a “loving, on-screen family dynamic”.
