The new season picks up right where season one left off. Matt Murdock/Daredevil (Charlie Cox) is trying to save New York for the iron grip of the Kingpin (Vincent D’Onofrio), who is using the office of Mayor to further his criminal empire. Fisk has a special Task Force that is supposed to be for stopping vigilante activities but in reality, also uses ruthless tactics to round up or remove any opposition and operates without any oversite or accountability.
Murdock and his girlfriend Karen (Deborah Ann Woll) must deal with an ever-changing and dangerous playing field using allies wherever they can find them in order to restore order. Differing agendas and a blurring moral line often arise as the threats to the city grow and find Daredevil and his allies walking a very thin line between protecting and breaking the law in order to do what they do is right.
The series has some powerful performances from the leads and there are more than a few surprise appearances along the way that raise some very interesting possibilities for the already filming third season of the series.
The action in the series can be brutal as blood, broken bones, and deaths do occur and no quarter is given to show the dark and dangerous individuals in this world. Many will likely draw the connections between events in the series to some real-world events and say that the show is making political statements. However, some of the best entertainment can include social commentary and this was an engaging watch for me that had me eagerly awaiting to see what comes next.
Some elements slowed down such as courtroom and legal proceedings, but when the lead character is a lawyer, this is to be expected.
In the end, Daredevil: Born Again has crafted a dark and engaging second season which gives fans the brutal character driven stories they expect.
