Ubisoft has finally confirmed “Assassin’s Creed: Black Flag – Resynced,” the remake of the fourth major “Assassin’s Creed” entry and arguably the most acclaimed one in the entire franchise.
The confirmation comes via a posting on Ubisoft outlining where things stand with a number of projects within the franchise at present.
Jean Guesdon was appointed head of content for the franchise last month alongside two other franchise veterans who will steward the series under Ubisoft’s Vantage Studios banner.
In the posting, Guesdon confirms “Assassin’s Creed: Shadows” is moving into its ‘final phase’ of support as the team shifts focus to three previously announced games. Of those, he says:
Of the new big single-player title ‘Codename Hexe’, he says: “While we know we haven’t shared much about this one yet, it’s being built with great care by our veteran team here at Ubisoft Montreal. Expect a unique, darker, narrative-driven Assassin’s Creed experience, set during a pivotal moment in history.”
Of the multiplayer title ‘Codename Invictus’, he says it’s: “Progressing steadily with a test and learn approach. We understand there’s a lot of curiosity around this project: yes, it’s a new approach to multiplayer in the franchise, but it isn’t quite what the rumours have suggested”
Of the mobile title ‘Codename Jade’, he says it will have co-op gameplay, and it sounds like it’s being reworked: “While we recently chose to pivot away from an early project, the lessons from that work are already helping shape our approach going forward. What matters most to us is giving each project the time it deserves and releasing it when it is ready.”
Then came the tease of new artwork for the ‘Black Flag’ remake alongside the line: “Speculation around Assassin’s Creed is not new, but it’s worth repeating: ‘Nothing is true. Everything is permitted. Well, except in this case, some whispers have a little more wind in their sails. Keep your spyglass on the horizon.”
Finally, a long-requested 60fps update for 2014’s “Assassin’s Creed Unity” will roll out tomorrow for PS5 & Xbox Series X|S. Sadly, no updates were revealed regarding the Netflix series based on the property.
