It’s weird to think that Jon Favreau basically started the MCU. Decisions he made when directing Iron Man, including going in to bat for Robert Downey Jr. in the lead role, had to land or there simply wouldn’t have been an MCU to follow.

He also made some of the rare, decent, Star Wars that came about post-Disney acquisition in the form of The Mandalorian on which he was co-creator alongside Dave Filoni.

For a while, he was the great hope of Star Wars. His name was even mentioned when people talked of Kathleen Kennedy stepping down.

That, of course, never happened, but he is back in the world of Star Wars with this summer’s The Mandalorian & Grogu, the first big screen outing for Star Wars since The Rise Of Skywalker, seven years ago.

Now he has hinted that his time in the galaxy far, far away may come to the an end with this movie.

In an interview with Polygon, he said:

“I’ve been working on Star Wars now for seven years, and to be able to step up to doing it as a film feels like a culmination of what I’m working on.”

He also said that a lot of effort have gone into making the adventures of The Mandalorian stand up to the big screen experience, and that it wasn’t just a case of porting the show onto that big screen.

“The challenge becomes: Okay, we presented a cinematic experience on the small screen. We have to up our game now to the movie theater. That means taller aspect ratios for IMAX, building sets that take full advantage of that, making the visual effects of the quality and caliber that we have to notch everything up.

He says he was very clear in his goals when making this movie.

”You have to have such a good experience that you say, ‘This is worth my time. Let’s go again. I want to bring you. You should go see it.’”

A new trailer for The Mandalorian and Grogu arrives later today.
