The first Greenland movie was a very effective movie. Largely avoiding the huge spectacle of movies like Armageddon and Deep Impact, it chose instead to tell a more focussed story based around a single family.

It was released in the midst of the pandemic, and therefore had its box office impacted. It still managed to pull in over $50 million, and did huge numbers of streaming.

So a sequel was green lit, then stalled as STX films placed the rights into bankruptcy protection.

The financials have been cleared up, the movie has ben shot, and now it has a final trailer.

Gerard Butler returns as John Garrity. After fleeing to Greenland with his wife Allison (Morena Baccarin) and son Nathan (Roger Dale Floyd) to escape an extinction level comet collision, the story will pick up years later.

In the aftermath of the comet strike that decimated most of the Earth, they’re forced to leave the safety of their bunker in Greenland to traverse a shattered world, and what’s left of Europe, in search of a new home.

Director Ric Roman Waugh and writer Chris Sparling also return from the first movie.

Butler, Alan Siegel, Brendon Boyea., Basil Iwanyk, Erica Lee, Sébastien Raybaud and John Zois are producing. Anton and STX are co-producing and co-financing.

Greenland 2: Migration is out in theaters this Friday.
