Amazon MGM Studios premiered the trailer for its live-action comedy “The Sheep Detectives” which is being helmed by “Minions” veteran Kyle Balda.

The film will be based on Leonie Swann’s 2005 award-winning novel “Glennkill” and follows Jackman’s shepherd George Hardy, who has a relationship with his flock that involves him reading them mystery stories aloud every night – assuming they can’t possibly understand.

Little does George know that his sheep aren’t just intelligent but quite self-aware and capable of speech. When he’s not around, they all bicker about the whodunnit for hours on end.

When George dies suddenly, his flock recognises someone killed him and tries to solve his murder – leaving their meadow in pursuit of justice. As they follow the clues and investigate human suspects, they prove that even sheep can be brilliant crime-solvers.

The cast includes a mix of live-action and voice talent, including Hugh Jackman, Nicholas Braun, Nicholas Galitzine, Molly Gordon, Hong Chau, Emma Thompson, Julia Louis-Dreyfus, Bryan Cranston, Chris O’Dowd, Regina Hall, Patrick Stewart, Bella Ramsey, and Rhys Darby.

“The Last Of Us” showrunner Craig Mazin adapts Swann’s novel for the big screen while Lindsay Doran, Tim Bevan and Eric Fellner produce and Phil Lord and Chris Miller executive produce.

“The Sheep Detectives” opens in cinemas in May.
