Gin and tonic. Han and Chewie. Politicians and corruption. Some pairings just work. Like Guy Ritchie and Jason Statham. They are back together for a sixth time for Viva La Madness.
Viva La Madness is a book by J.J. Connolly that serves as a direct sequel to Layer Cake. That 2004 thriller, starring future Bond Daniel Craig and directed by Matthew Vaughn, is still something of a low-key crime masterpiece.
While this will adapt that work, it will not be a sequel, but instead a standalone adaptation.
Viva La Madness tells the story of a once-powerful London drug dealer who has been living in exile in the Caribbean. He returns to the London underworld for a big score and finds himself working alongside some highly volatile gangsters as he is pulled back into a world of drug deals, betrayals, and power plays stretching from London to Colombia.
Statham and Thomas Benski will produce the film alongside Ritchie, who writes and directs.
After a career start in Lock Stock & Two Smoking Barrels, the pair re-teamed for Snatch, Revolver, Wrath of Man, and the criminally underrated Operation Fortune.
