The British tabloid press strikes again. The Sun newspaper has published the first look at the Diagon Alley set from the upcoming Harry Potter TV series, which is currently being produced for HBO. The look is more like Victorian London, with the kind of buildings you still see in many places around the city. The previous appearance, from the movies, had a more Tudor-like feel to it.

Other than that, the look is now massively different, although a “source” for the newspaper says viewers will get to see some key differences in main locations:

“There is a whole new part that wasn’t in the first films. It’s completely different, and it has a different feel. The street is two layers. The wand shop is a little different, but the main difference is the bank.

I don’t think they’re allowed to do the same as the films, apart from the general Harry Potter story, so the design will be very different. The joke shop is in a different place and does not look anything like the original.”

A few weeks ago, some location shooting at London King’s Cross station revealed that the Hogwarts Express will remain largely unchanged, as there are only so many ways to portray a giant red steam engine. It did reveal that the clothing seems to match the late 90s / early 00s timeframe of the books.

These new shots remind me a little of Leadenhall Market in the heart of the financial district.

A full shot of Professor Dumbledore also revealed that John Lithgow will be looking the part.

The new Harry Potter series stars Dominic McLaughlin as Potter, with Alastair Stout as Ron Weasley and Arabella Stanton as Hermione Granger. Co-stars joining Lithgow include Janet McTeer, Paapa Essiedu, and Nick Frost.

There was a wild rumor a few weeks ago that Wicked star Cynthia Erivo was being lined up to play Voldemort. Would they?
