Whether you like it or not, 20th Century Studios is spinning up a sequel to The Simpsons Movie and has set a date of July 23rd 2027.
This is, unbelievably, 20 years after the first Simpsons Movie was released.
Oh my God… I am so old. Where did that 20 years go?
That first movie made huge money for Fox. It pulled in $536.4 million globally. Many fans, however, point to it as the exact moment that The Simpsons seemed to lose it’s edge and out stay it’s welcome.
The television show has certainly struggled to recapture it’s heyday what it was magnificently written, brilliantly observed comedy.
A sequel was rumored for many years, but nobody seemed to take ownership of driving it forward, even after the dust settled from the Disney acquisition of Fox.
The only thing we have seen of the new movie is the donut themed announcement poster. No other details are known at this time.
After an entire lifetime on the air, many have said the show should consider finishing. Is this one final hurrah before retirement?
