Movie production companies are well known for using pseudonyms to hide the real nature of their upcoming releases. Return Of The Jedi was, famously, Blue Harvest. Captain America was hidden as Sputnik. Now it seems Jason Momoa and Ryan Reynolds are in on the act for their latest project – Animal Friends.

Legendary pictures is all in on Animal Friends. It is an R-rated blend of live action and animation, described as a road movie.

The script is from writing duo Kevin Burrows and Matt Mider, and alongside Reynolds and Momoa are Vince Vaughn and Aubrey Plaza.

The movie had its start at a general meeting between Burrows & Mider and Patrick Gooing, an executive at Reynolds’ production company, Maximum Effort. Soon Legendary signed on to produce alongside them, roping in Namit Malhotra’s Prime Focus Studios. Visual effects and animation will be provided by visual entertainment services company, DNEG.

Surprisingly Emmy-winning director Peter Atencio (The Machine) is at the helm.

So what is the issue? Well, according to reports online, Animal Friends was hidden under the fake name of Furries.

For several weeks of production, cast and crew had no idea why they weren’t getting e-mails, and it turns out they were all getting marked as “adult content” and sent to junk mailboxes.

Good job, everyone!
