The superhero movie is dead. Long live the superhero movie! It looks like there might be life in the old dog yet. Ticketing service Fandango (via Dark Horizons) is reporting that Marvel’s The Fantastic Four: First Steps has beaten all other 2025 movies in terms of first-day advanced ticket sales.
This is on top of reports that Superman is trending for a $175 million opening weekend. Tickets for that movie are not yet on pre-sale.
Maybe reports of the death of the genre have been exaggerated, and people will still come out for perceived top-tier characters and adventures.
This news comes just as the runtime is confirmed at 130-minutes. This places it outsided the top ten longest MCU movies. They are:
Avengers: Endgame – 3 hours and 1 minute
Black Panther: Wakanda Forever – 2 hours and 41 minutes
Eternals – 2 hours and 36 minutes
Guardians of the Galaxy Vol 3 – 2 hours and 29 minutes
Avengers: Infinity War – 2 hours and 29 minutes
Spider-Man: No Way Home – 2 hours and 28 minutes
Captain America: Civil War – 2 hours and 27 minutes
The Avengers – 2 hours and 23 minutes
Avengers: Age of Ultron – 2 hours and 21 minutes
Thunderbolts* – 2 hours and 20 minutes
Speaking of Thunderbolts, according to a report in Empire magazine, things might not be all they seem from that end-credits scene and its links to The Fantastic Four. Without giving away too many spoilers, Feige teased:
“I’m not sure they’re the same ship.”
We will find out on July 25th when The Fantastic Four: First Steps opens in cinemas.
