It’s official, “Saw XI” has lost its release date with distributor Lionsgate pulling the title from its September 26th 2025 release date. Instead, the Renny Harlin-directed “The Strangers: Chapter 2” will now open in U.S. cinemas on that date.
The move follows on from several weeks of rumors that “Saw XI,” which hasn’t started filming, would not make its planned release date.
One report came down to it being due to a fight between producers and Lionsgate, though reasoning for the disagreement is unclear.
Speculation has quickly since ensued that the franchise could be canceled altogether, but Lionsgate shared a statement today from Billy the Puppet regarding the future of the franchise:
“I’ve seen the rumors. They say it’s Game Over. You all should know me better than that. The game is never over.”
“The Strangers: Chapter 2” will follow on from “The Strangers: Chapter 1” which opened in U.S. cinemas in May last year, the title earning $48 million at the global box office from an estimated $8.5 million budget.
Reviews from both critics and fans were not good. Nonetheless a whole trilogy has long been planned with all three films shot back-to-back in Bratislava in late 2022 with the aim of annual releases. Madelaine Petsch, Gabriel Basso and Ema Horvath co-star.
