Early pre-production is said to have already started on the next 007 adventure after Amazon greenlit the project, placed it into uber-fast-track development, and targetted a late 2027 release date
Development had stalled at Amazon / MGM Studios following the well-publicized split between long-time Bond producers Barbara Broccoli and Michael G. Wilson. Last month, Amazon struck a $1 billion deal to take full creative control of the franchise to let them move into the background, with Wilson retiring.
There were already reboot ideas and broad plot outlines on the table at Amazon, and now that the deal is being finalized it looks as if things are moving at speed.
According to reports, the budget will be around the £250m mark, and writers are already being assembled to spin up the story.
To guide the franchise now that Broccoli and Wilson are strepping back, Amazon is reportedly eyeing another duo.
Last week we reported that Heydey Films founder David Heyman was in pole position to head up the franchise. There is now another name in the frame to sit alongside him. Ex-Sony Motion Pictures chief Amy Pascal.
Pascal was instrumental in Sony’s successful run as distributor of the recent Bond movies, beginning in 2006 with Casino Royale. She is one of the most financially successful producers on Hollywood, thanks largely to the Tom Holland Spider-Man movies making big money. She also produced Best Picture Oscar nominees American Hustle, Captain Phillips, Zero Dark Thirty, Moneyball, and The Social Network.
On the downside, her name was also over the door for much of the failed SPUMC attempts, and she was not shown in a positive light by the alleged North Korean hacking of Sony, when what was purported to be her emails were shared in which conversations with fellow producer Scott Rudin did not cast her in a favorable light.
Reports also say meetings are about to begin with representatives of several potential actors to take over the role.
By the time the new movie arrives, it will have broken the record for the longest gap between Bond movies, the wait between Licence To Kill and GoldenEye.
