Walt Disney Studios and Pixar Animation Studios have announced that a sequel to 2017’s “Coco” is officially in the works with plans for a 2029 theatrical release.

The original film’s directors Lee Unkrich and Adrian Molina will both return for the new movie while Mark Nielsen (“Inside Out 2,” “Toy Story 4”) will produce. Plot specifics and casting remain under wraps at this time.

The film was announced as part of Disney’s annual meeting of shareholders with CEO Bob Iger saying: “While the film is just in the initial stages, we know it will be full of humor, heart, and adventure. And we can’t wait to share more soon.”

The original film won the Oscars for Best Animated Film and Best Original Song, landed very strong reviews and grossed approximately $814.3 million at the global box office.

It followed Miguel, a young man who dreams of being a musician in a family with a generations-old ban on music. He winds up in the colorful Land of the Dead and embarks on a story involving his own family history.

The voice cast included Anthony Gonzalez as Miguel, Gael García Bernal as Héctor, Benjamin Bratt as Ernesto de la Cruz, Alanna Ubach as Mamá Imelda, Renée Victor as Abuelita, and Ana Ofelia Murguía as Mamá Coco.
