As part of a major sit down with select press on Friday, DC Studios chiefs James Gunn and Peter Safran offered updates on various projects. I’ve already covered the live-action over here, now lets look at the animated projects.
The pair confirm they are in pre-production on the animated feature film “Dynamic Duo” about the two Robins Dick Grayson and Jason Todd. Safran says the project “provides a kind of perfect on-ramp for family audiences into the world of Gotham.”
They also remain in active development on an animated “Blue Beetle” series which will continue the events from the 2023 feature. Executive producers Angel Manuel Soto and Gareth Dunnet-Alcocer are expected to present the project for a possible greenlight “pretty soon”.
A green light has been given to three ‘younger-skewing’ animated series to be produced by Warner Bros. Animation and DC Studios:
My Adventures with Green Lantern
This will follow high school student Jessica Cruz whose life is upended when a Green Lantern Power Ring falls from the sky and chooses her to be its champion. Soon, “more debris from the Lanterns’ ancient space war arrives – along with their alien foes.” Jake Wyatt is executive producing,
DC Super Powers
Set at the Alliance School for Heroes, this focuses on new students including Lightning, Flash, Plastic Man, Aquagirl, Green Lantern and Terra as they “level up their powers under the supervision of Principal Martian Manhunter”. They hope to graduate and become the next generation of Earth’s defenders. Matt Beans is executive producing.
Starfire
An origin story for the Teen Titans character, it follows her adventures after she uses “an ancient spaceship” she discovers on her home planet of Tamaran to escape and explore the stars. She meets space biker Crush, plant-loving Fern, and the magical Princess Amethyst of Gemworld as they explore the deepest reaches of the DC universe. Josie Campbell is executive producing.
Krypto
Gunn confirms that “Superman” dog Krypto is getting a series of four seasonal shorts that will begin releasing in the Fall, after “Superman” debuts in July: “We’ve got these cool little Krypto shorts that are so fun, man. I’ve been watching all of them. He’s a terrible, terrible dog. It’s for families and it’s just really fun and goofy. It’s pretty cool.” It’s not clear if this will be live-action or animation.
