The free-to-play live-service team-based shooter title “Marvel Rivals” has broken its all-time concurrent player record following the release of its first season of content.
With the new ‘Eternal Night Falls’ material addded to the game, it saw 644,269 concurrent players – pushing the game to Number 14 on Steam‘s all-time highest concurrent player counts.
That beats the highest concurrent player count scoes of notable live service hits like “Among Us,” “Helldivers 2” and “Apex Legends”. Steam’s concurrent player counts favor live-service titles (esp. free to play), but the occasional paid single player title breaks through (eg. “Black Myth Wukong,” “Cyberpunk 2077”).
The new content is a vampire-themed season that introduces new characters and sees the Fantastic Four battle against the forces of Dracula.
Along with the new content came a patch to enable “a broader roster to partake in more intricate gameplay, ensuring a richer, more engaging, and diverse gaming experience for all.”
Some elements however, such as Team-Up abilities, aren’t being adjusted much yet as the game is still so new (it released only a little over a month ago with ‘Season 0’).
