The Golden Globes are traditionally the big kick-off of the Hollywood Awards season and are, for the cinema categories at least, seen as something of an indicator for the upcoming Oscars. It also yet again demonstrates America’s ridiculous obsession with holding these things on a Sunday.

The Oscars will do the same thing, as does the Superbowl. Guys, if you are throwing a party, you do it on a Saturday night so you can spend all day in bed the next day with a pounding hangover. Amateurs!

Imagine how much more fun the event could be at the Beverly Hilton in Los Angeles if everyone didn’t have to get up for work in the morning.

So who were the big winners? The Brutalist won for best film (drama), best actor (drama), and best director. Emilia Perez won for best film (comedy/musical), best non-English film, best supporting actress, and best song.

The Substance, Conclave, Challengers, A Different Man, A Real Pain, Wicked, Flow, and I’m Still Here all walked away with an award.

The Golden Globes also honors television, and here Shogun and Hacks were the big winners in the drama and comedy respectively taking both best series and best actress.

Shogun won best actor in a drama series, the comedy equivalent was won by The Bear. Colin Farrell’s prosthetic-clad performance in The Penguin was also recognized with the Best Performance by a Male Actor in a Limited Series award.
