With plenty of people returning to work on Monday, the last holiday box-office numbers are in and overall its a stronger start to the year than last year with $105 million spent at the box-office – up 22%.

“Mufasa: The Lion King” continues its comeback after its soft start last month. The title finally took the top spot for the three-day this weekend and is set to take in $24.5 million – down just 33% on last week. To date is has pulled in $169 million domestically.

“Sonic the Hedgehog 3” has had to settle for second place with $20.7 million for the weekend – down 44%. Its total domestically now stands at $187 million and is now the third-highest grossing video game adaptation in domestic box office history – beating “Uncharted” at $150 million and behind only “Sonic 2” at $190 million and “The Super Mario Bros. Movie” at $575 million.

Third went to “Moana 2” with $13.2 million (down 30%) and a stunning $425.9 million total thus far, followed by “Nosferatu” with $13.1 million – down just 39% in its second weekend and a total of $69 million after just ten days.

“Wicked” rounded out the top five with $10.2 million in its seventh weekend for a total of $450.7 million thus far. Sixth was “A Complete Unknown” with $8.3 million – down just 29% in its second weekend, seventh is “Babygirl” with $4.6 million – up by 3% from its debut last weekend.

“Se7en” held its 30th anniversary screenings on 200 screens, pulling in $1.06 million for the weekend.
