The DCU version of Batman has been revealed, in an unexpected place. The penultimate episode of Creature Commandos. It was, as you would expect, a brief glimpse.
A flashback scene happens where Doctor Phosphorus (Alan Tudyk) looks up at a skylight in his club to see Batman looking down at him, caught mainly in silhouette form. The version is very close to the version seen in Batman: The Animated Series with white eyes, an expressively long cape, and trunks with a utility belt. It is not too far away from the Affleck version, at first glance.
Certainly more built than the Matt Reeves’ version, so the immediate reaction is that any rumors about Pattinson joining the DCU are just that right now, rumors.
When James Gunn was at Marvel he said that Batman was his favourite comic hero. He has also confirmed that, just like with Superman, the DCU has no plans to tell an origin story yet again:
I think it’s a great way to show that Batman does exist, he already exists in this universe. We come to the Superman movie, we see that Superman already exists. He is already known by the people of Metropolis.
So, yes. We do not need to hear the origin story again. So, that is just the way to introduce that Batman is a part of this universe. He is an important part of this universe and he has an impact on it including defeating such pretty dangerous, scary people like Phosphorous who is pretty tough.
This is the DCU Batman… listen, I gotta tell you, I just love Batman, I love him! I’ve loved him since I was a little kid.
Batman: The Brave and the Bold remains in very early development at DC Studios and at least a year later than originally penciled in.
