CD Projekt Red has released a six-minute first look at “The Witcher IV,” the fourth main entry in the celebrated franchise following the third game releasing in 2015 to many Game of the Year awards.
The new single-player, open-world RPG shifts the perspective, instead of Geralt of Rivia being the lead character it will be Ciri who is now a professional monster slayer who sets out on a journey through a brutal dark-fantasy world.
The trailer is a pure cinematic and depicts a girl who is being dressed and prepared for sacrifice to the evils of the world to save the village. Except a Witcher in town, Princess Cirilla or Cintra, who aims to fight the evil instead.
Powered by Unreal Engine 5, the title aims to be the most immersive and ambitious open-world Witcher game to date. The developer revealed a few weeks ago that the game has now entered full production.
With the title, CDPR moves away from their own in-house game engine to using Unreal Engine 5 with integration of nanite textures and lumen global illumination in-game.
The title has yet to get a release date though as it only just entered full production it’s almost certainly at least 2-3 years away.
