Rapper A$AP Rocky (aka Rakim Mayers) has reportedly been announced as starring in “Highest 2 Lowest,” Spike Lee‘s upcoming reimagining of Akira Kurosawa’s classic “High and Low”.
IndieWire broke the news, their sources confirming A$AP Rocky will have the main leading role as character named ‘Yung Felon’ in the feature which also stars Denzel Washington, Jeffrey Wright, Ilfenesh Hadera, and Ice Spice.
The original film starred Toshiro Mifune as a shoe company executive who is extorted after his chauffeur’s son is kidnapped by mistake and held for ransom.
Lee has previously called this a reinterpretation of the original film with Washington as a music mogul with his own label.
Apple Original Films and A24 are partnering on the project with plans to release the film theatrically before it streams on Apple TV+.
The project marks a reuniting of Washington and Lee for their fifth film together following “Mo’ Better Blues,” “Malcolm X,” and “He Got Game” and “Inside Man”.
Alan Fox wrote the screenplay with Lee while Todd Black will produce.
