This is one way to drum up business! Sony Pictures has dropped the opening eight minutes of Kraven: The Hunter online.

R-rated Marvel worked out well for Disney with Deadpool & Wolverine. Can they pull off the same trick with less yucks and more violence? We will find it on December 13th.

Can they salvage the SPUMC? The talent is there. The director is an interesting pick and the subject matter, and source material, have potential.

Aaron Taylor-Johnson plays Kraven, a man whose complex relationship with his ruthless father, Nikolai Kravinoff (Russell Crowe), starts him down a path of vengeance with brutal consequences, motivating him to become not only the greatest hunter in the world, but also one of its most feared.

The movie co-stars Fred Hechinger as Kraven’s half-brother Dmitri Smerdyakov/Chameleon, Alessandro Nivola as Russian mercenary Aleksei Sytsevich/The Rhino, Ariana DeBose as voodoo priestess Calypso, and Christopher Abbott as The Foreigner.

The script was co-written by The Equalizer scribe Richard Wenk alongside Matt Holloway, and Art Marcum.

Marvel slatwart Avi Arad produces with Matt Tolmach.

Most importantly, it is not Wicked. Counter programming potential?
