Japanese filmmaker Hirokazu Kore-eda (“Shoplifters,” “Monster”) has penned and directed a contemporary remake of late 1970s Japanese family drama series “Asura” for Netflix. Rie Miyazawa, Machiko Ono, Yu Aoi and Suzu Hirose stars in the series which launches January 9th.
Sset in 1979, it follows four sisters whose lives are shaken by the discovery that their aging father is having an affair. As they navigate their differing views on love and life, their journey is marked by both conflict and growth. [Source: THR]
Wife & Dog
Oscar nominees Benedict Cumberbatch and Rosamund Pike, and Oscar winner Anthony Hopkins are all set to star in Guy Ritchie’s next feature “Wife & Dog”. Ritchie, Ivan Atkinson and John Friedberg produce and filming is due to start in February 2025 in the UK.
Ritchie penned the script and while story details are under wraps, it’s dubbed a “return to the colourful, back-stabbing world of the British aristocracy” which Richie explored in “The Gentlemen” film and TV series. [Source: Deadline]
Moana
Video has gone online showing Moana’s wayfinding boat from Disney’s live-action remake of the 2016 animated title. The live-action “Moana” will hit cinemas on July 10th 2026.
Filming on the project gets underway this week and will see Catherine Laga’aia starring as Moana, along with Dwayne Johnson as Maui, John Tui as Chief Tui, Frankie Adams as Sina and Rena Owen as Gramma Tala.

Happy Gilmore 2
Ben Stiller has been photographed in costume reprising his role of Hal L., the deceitful nursing home attendant who looked after Happy’s grandma, in the upcoming “Happy Gilmore” sequel which is currently filming.
Sandler returns as the titular Happy, a former hockey player who turns to golf when he needs to raise money to save his grandmother’s house. Stiller joins other returnees like Christopher McDonald and Julie Bowen.
