The Wayans Brothers are coming back for a “Scary Movie” which will film next year for a theatrical release.
The Wayans and Rick Alvarez are writing and producing the movie with Marlon Wayans confirming the news himself with a posting on Instagram.
In an official statement to Deadline in the wake of this, Marlon, Shawn, and Keenen Wayans all indicated they are keen to get back to work:
“We couldn’t be more excited to be a part of the new Scary Movie and work with each other again. This is a franchise we created more than 20 years ago.
We remember people laughing in the aisles and hope to see that happen again. We look forward to working with Jonathan Glickman and his team at the new Miramax to bring these laughs to theaters, where they belong. It’s a double reunion.”
The new “Scary Movie” was announced at CinemaCon earlier this year, but there seemingly had been little progress since then.
The franchise was developed by the trio with Keenen writing and directing the first two films, while Marlon and Shawn co-starred and co-wrote those films.
Over five films, the franchise grossed over $896 million worldwide, and the first one was one of the highest grossing R-rated horror movies of all time – debuting to $42.5 million at the time.
Paramount Pictures is releasing the film worldwide.
