It has been known for a while, but now it’s looking set – filmmaker David Fincher’s English-language take on “Squid Game” is going forward.
Deadline reports that the project, which was originally planned as a film, is actually going to be a series which Fincher will develop. In addition, it’s not a remake of the South Korean series but rather a spin-off likely set in the United States.
Sources for the outlet say the show is likely the project Fincher commits his time to in 2025.
Fincher has had a deal with Netflix for some time and has long been linked to the project, but for the past few months it appeared that other projects were taking precedence.
That’s no longer the case. Even so, little is known about this off-shoot other than his involvement and the rumored “Squid Game: America” title.
It would mark Fincher’s fourth series for the streamer following “House of Cards,” “Mindhunter” and “Love, Death and Robots”.
The second season of the original Korean series is set for a December 26th launch and a third and final season is expected to air in 2025.
