DC Studios co-chief James Gunn just showed up at New York Comic Con to promote his upcoming “Creature Commandos” animated series along with various members of the cast.
Following the trailer was a Q&A session where discussion turned towards other works in the new DC Universe including Gunn’s own “Superman” film due in cinemas in July.
Of the new DC Universe, Gunn says that while it’s a connected universe, they are “not imposing any overall aesthetic” which gives the various creators quite a bit of freedom.
That includes his “Superman” which he excitingly teased:
“The movie is going extraordinarily well, we’re deep in the process of editing, David Corenswet is going to blow people the f— away.
He is the movie star that everyone just dreams he could possibly be, and I don’t think anyone really understands the depth of this guy’s talent – dramatically, comedically. He’s the best physical action star I’ve probably ever worked.
He’s an amazing actor and Rachel Brosnahan, people are going to die for her as Lois.”
Asked about when he’ll unveil the film to the world with the first trailer, he says:
“There’s no trailer yet. It won’t be too long before we see a trailer, but also it won’t be soon.”
That would suggest we shouldn’t expect it until probably either December or January. Speaking of January, Gunn confirms filming begins on the “Supergirl” film in England that month.
He adds he “just saw the screen test with Milly Alcock” for the film which is based on Tom King’s “Supergirl: Woman of Tomorrow” comic.
He also confirmed the reports that Rick Flagg Sr. (Frank Grillo) appears not just in “Creature Commandos” but also has a “Superman” role and a major role in “Peacemaker” S2.
