By Judd Apatow is attached to direct and Steven Spielberg is set to produce the “Cola Wars” film in development at Sony Pictures.
First revealed earlier this year, the film deals with the 1980s and 1990s event of the same name as Pepsi attempts to challenge Coca-Cola’s century-long reign as the world’s top cola.
The long-time rivalry between soft drink producers The Coca-Cola Company and PepsiCo saw them engaging in mutually targeted marketing campaigns directly competing over their product lines.
This was especially true of their flagship colas, Coca-Cola and Pepsi. From the late 1970s and into the 1980s, the fierceness of the competition escalated until it got the ‘cola wars’ name.
Jason Shuman (“Winning Time,” “Acapulco”) and Ben Queen (“Cars 2,” “Powerless”) are writing the script which will offer a behind-the-scenes account of the corporate conflict.
Spielberg is producing through his company Amblin Entertainment. Apatow last directed Netflix’s 2022 film “The Bubble”.
