The CW’s final DC series “Superman & Lois” comes to an end starting in October with its fourth and final season.
In a new interview with TV Line, Helbing and fellow co-showrunner Brent Fletcher tease that a significant comics character you would not expect will appear before the end of the season:
“There is a pretty significant character from the comics that we were actually surprised that we were able to use — and it’s pretty soon in the season. You hear the name drop, then start hearing that name drop more, and then you see that person eventually.”
Though technically in a different universe from the Arrowverse, the new season will see “The Flash” series alum Tom Cavanagh appearing in a role that co-showrunner Todd Helbing has previously said is “as though the character was created for him”.
This week’s comments of a key DC character early in the season have quickly led to speculation this is the role Cavanagh is playing, especially as Cavanagh’s role is said to be in the early part of the season too.
Helberg previously teased Cavanagh’s role at San Diego Comic Con, saying:
“There’s a lot of cameos, more than any other season I would say, this year. But that came out because it’s a character in the comics and I mean it’s like somebody met Tom Cavanagh, went back in time, created this character and then was like, ‘hey, you guys should cast this guy.’ You know, like that. It was the easiest casting of all time.”
The final season of “Superman & Lois” is scheduled to debut with a two-episode premiere on Monday, October 7th. The remaining eight episodes will follow on Monday nights.
