George Clooney and Brad Pitt are reportedly coming back while filmmaker Edward Berger (“All Quiet on the Western Front”) is tipped to take on directing duties on “Ocean’s Fourteen” at Warner Bros. Pictures.
Deadline broke the report, saying the Smokehouse-produced next installment in the caper film franchise has been building with Clooney indicating last year they had a strong script said to be in the spirit of “Going in Style”.
The project would mark the first without director Steven Soderbergh, and Berger is in high demand right now – coming off great reviews at Venice for his new film “Conclave” and is reportedly being courted to helm the next James Bond film.
However, the trade does advise things are very early and Berger doesn’t even have an offer at this point. Clooney and Pitt themselves were just in Venice for the Jon Watts-directed Apple film “Wolfs”.
There’s also the question of how much of the ensemble will be back, with “The Instigators” co-stars Matt Damon and Casey Affleck expected to return to the fold (the pair are also gearing up for a sequel to that recent Doug Liman film).
The project is separate from the previously announced “Oceans” prequel starring Margot Robbie and Ryan Gosling.
