Is Lucasfilm cursed? Seriously. Did they disturb some ancient burial ground while filming in Tunisia or something? They simply can’t get anything right. Six out of ten of their announced projects never see the light of day. Those that do are massive disappointments or outright flops.
According to a rumor doing the rounds out there today, joining Leslye Headland’s second season of The Acolyte on the trash pile is Taika Waititi’s untitled Star Wars project.
Matt McGloin at Cosmic Book News, claims conversations with insiders at recent events have informed him that Waititi’s project is dead, and Headland is done at Lucasfilm. No further projects will be going their way.
The story states that Disney was still somewhat sour on Waititi as Thor: Love and Thunder was a much more troubled production than anyone knew, with Waititi not finishing the reshoots or assembling the final cut of the movie himself. He states it was:
“…a complete disaster, and Marvel gave him the boot from the movie.”
As a result, Waititi is out at Lucasfilm and will not be doing his Star Wars project.
While out promoting Next Goal Wins last year he did tell Business Insider that he would no longer be involved with the franchise, saying:
“I know that I won’t be involved. I’m going to concentrate on these other films that I’ve signed on for.”
Waititi’s Star Wars film was originally announced on May 4th, 2020. This was before Thor: Love And Thunder was released. He hinted he was having problems finishing the script when he presented Deadpool & Wolverine director Shawn Levy with an award, saying:
“After [Levy] has had his way with that franchise like a cruel, indiscriminate virus he’ll move onto another, and another, and another, and then eventually probably Star Wars. Unlike me, I hope he manages to finish a script for that.”
Well, now it looks like he won’t get a chance to complete it.
