By “John Wick” filmmaker Chad Stahelski has acquired rights to author Jonathan Maberry’s “Joe Ledger” book series that his company 87Eleven Entertainment will adapt into a TV series.
Ten novels in the series exist so far, led by Captain Joseph Edwin ‘Joe’ Ledger (aka. Cowboy) – a former Army Ranger, Baltimore police detective with extreme anger management issues related to an ex-girlfriend who committed suicide.
In the novels, he’s hired by a clandestine, investigative agency known as the Department of Military Sciences (DMS) which pursues technologically advanced threats related to bio-terrorism.
Along with his combat dog Ghost, his team of tier-one special operators are aided by the resources of the mysterious Mr. Church to stop threats ranging from transgenic weapons to designer pathogens.
87Eleven Entertainment currently has a bunch of projects in the works including films like the Henry Cavill-led “Highlander” reboot, an adaptation of Tom Clancy’s “Rainbow Six” property, a film take on the acclaimed PlayStation game “Ghost of Tsushima,” a Black Samurai film at Netflix, and an adaptation of Trevanian’s “Shibumi” at Warners among others.
They also have the “John Wick” spin-off series “Under the High Table” in the works and are currently filming “Nobody 2” in Manitoba.
