Ridley Scott’s “Napoleon: The Director’s Cut,” featuring 48 minutes of new footage and unseen scenes, has suddenly become available to stream on Apple TV+.
Though teased as far back as around this time last year, it was never clear how the longer version fo the film would be released and just how long it would be.
The theatrical cut clocks in at an already sizeable 158 minutes, with Scott hinting last year he had a version that came in at four-and-a-half hours (270 minutes).
The final ‘director’s cut’ now comes in at 206 minutes and is expected to show more of the life of Vanessa Kirby’s Josephine.
The hope is it will potentially score a better reaction than the mixed reception the theatrical received. Scott’s “Kingdom of Heaven” famously went from a mixed/poor reception to what many dub almost a masterpiece when its similarly longer director’s cut debuted.
David Scarpa pens the film with Scott also producing alongside Mark Huffam and Kevin J. Walsh. The theatrical release received three Oscar nominations for visual effects, production design and costume design.
You asked, he listened.
