Developer Game Science has announced that the recently released action RPG video game “Black Myth: Wukong” has sold a stunning 10 million copies in just three days.
The title went on sale on August 20th on both PC and PlayStation 5 (Xbox version is not due until November) and by 9pm August 23rd Beijing time came the news of that sales barrier being reached.
To put it in comparison, that easily beats the sales of cross-platform giants “Elden Ring” and “Hogwarts Legacy”, and recent PlayStation hit “Helldivers 2” which took 12 weeks to sell 12 million copies.
The figure is on par with Nintendo’s fastest-selling game of all time – “Pokémon Scarlet and Violet” which similar took just three days to sell 10 million copies.
On Steam it’s the most-played single-player game of all-time and second most-played game of any kind behind only PUBG.
Most of that success is coming out of China where the the game has gone mainstream, not unexpectedly as it is based on the legendary Chinese story “Journey to the West”. That also explains the 80%/20% split between PC & PS5 players as China gamers are primarily on PC.
That said, so many in China are being caught up in the wave of exposure regarding the game at consultant Daniel Olimac is reporting that stocks of PS5 consoles are selling out in China.
It’s indicated stock at the country’s largest electronic store Huaqiangbei in Shenzhen is struggling to accommodate demand. In addition, scalping and reselling of the units has surged to levels akin to early PS5 release days.
