Adam Sandler has confirmed via “The Tonight Show” that filming on the “Happy Gilmore” sequel gets underway “in a couple weeks” in New Jersey.
In addition, several notable names are set to join him in the project including his “Uncut Gems” co-director Benny Safdie and footballer Travis Kelce.
Sandler said of the sequel: “It’s good. We worked hard on the script. We didn’t want to let anybody down. People have been asking me for a long time. We’re really excited about it. We wrote our asses off. So many of the golfers are being nice and will be a part of it.”
Kelce has previously said he was a huge fan of Sandler and would do “anything” to be a part of the “Happy Gilmore” sequel. Sandler heard: “We have a nice something for Travis. He’s gonna come by. He’s a very nice guy.”
The film will be part of Kelce’s move into acting which also includes FX’s “Grotesquerie” series and the just announced action-comedy film “Loose Cannons”.
While Kelce is more of smaller role, Sandler tells Indiewire that Safdie’s part is a juicy one. The first film made nearly $40 million at the worldwide box office in 1996 and remains one of Sandler’s signature works.
