The next film from “Boogie Nights,” “Phantom Thread” and “The Master” filmmaker Paul Thomas Anderson is reportedly coming in at a budget of over $140 million.

The Wall Street Journal cited the figure for the movie which is “more than double his typical budget”. “There Will Be Blood” is Anderson’s most commercially successful film to date, but even it took just $76 million at the box office.

The reason for the huge jump here is the film is being seen as his most commercial to date with Leonardo DiCaprio set to star. DiCaprio is reportedly making approximately $20 million for his role in the film.

Regina Hall, Sean Penn, Alana Haim, Teyana Taylor and Benicio del Toro co-star in the film which began shooting in January under the working title “BC Project” and is rumored to be titled “The Battle of Baktan Cross”.

Anderson wrote the script for the movie and serves as a producer alongside Sara Murphy and Adam Somner, but plot specifics are under wraps.

The film already has an August 8th 2025 release date set and will be Anderson’s first film to hit IMAX screens. Anderson last directed 2021’s “Licorice Pizza”.
