Michael Green, the executive producer and co-creator of Netflix’s highly acclaimed animated series “Blue Eye Samurai,” has shared details of where the show’s second season currently stands.
Set in Edo-period Japan, the series follows mixed-race master of the sword Mizu who lives a life in disguise seeking the deliverance of revenge.
The adult animated series launched almost a year ago on the streamer to much fanfare with many hoping for more episodes soon. Sadly, that’s looking unlikely according to Green.
Speaking with The Direct, Green says they are currently targeting a 2026 return for the show but they are currently hard at work on it:
“We’ ve written more than half [and] we’re starting to produce the first two. When we’re finished with one more interview, we’re going to look at some early storyboards for the first episode, and it’s not the first round that’s come in.”
The show’s voice cast includes Maya Erskine as Mizu, George Takei as Seki, Masi Oka as Ringo, Cary-Hiroyuki Tagawa as The Swordmaker, Brenda Song as Akemi, Darren Barnet as Taigen, Randall Park as Heiji Shindo, Kenneth Branagh as Abijah Fowler, Stephanie Hsu as Ise, Ming-Na Wen as Madame Kaji, Harry Shum Jr. as Takayoshi, and Mark Dacascos as Chiaki.
The first season is in the running for two Emmy awards soon – Outstanding Animated Program and Outstanding Sound Editing for a Comedy or Drama Series (Half-Hour) and Animation.
