Though developer CD Projekt Red’s upcoming “The Witcher 4” game will see the return of iconic character Geralt of Rivia, he’s not going to be the central focus this time.
Doug Cockle, who voices Geralt in the games, spoke with Fall Damage recently and confirms the character won’t be the star. Cockle says:
“The Witcher 4 has been announced. I can’t say anything about it. We know that Geralt will be part of the game, we just don’t know how much. The game won’t focus on Geralt, so it’s not about him this time. We don’t know who it’s about, I’m excited to find out!”
Cockle added that he has yet to see a script for the game. The project is in development at the studio with two-thirds of the staff – over 400 developers – currently working on the title which was previously codenamed ‘Polaris’.
This will mark the first of the mainline “The Witcher” games not to focus on Geralt, and has previously been teased as the beginning of a new trilogy of AAA RPG titles. The game is reportedly being built using Unreal Engine 5.
The company is also working on a remake of the 2007 original “The Witcher” game, built from the ground up in Unreal Engine 5 by Fool’s Theory with full creative supervision from The Witcher series staff and CD Projekt Red.
