Marvel Studios held its animation panel at D23 today with brief updates on five animated series on the way – “What If,” “Eyes of Wakanda,” “Marvel’s Zombies,” “Your Friendly Neighbourhood Spider-Man,” and “X-Men ’97”.

The biggest news of the panel is that Colman Domingo is joining the Marvel Cinematic Universe – as the voice of Norman Osborn in “Your Friendly Neighborhood Spider-Man”.

He’ll be joined in that series by Hudson Thames who is voicing Peter Parker for both this and the third season of “What If…?”. Here, Norman is Peter’s mentor and is a teacher with somewhat more questionable methods.

Speaking of “What If,” the panel confirmed the upcoming third season will be the show’s final one. Confirmed first-time inclusions this season are Shang-Chi, Ironheart and Moon Knight.

The series will also boast an episode featuring an Avengers team of Sam Wilson’s Captain America, Moon Knight, Shang-Chi, Melina, Red Guardian, Shuri and Monica Rambeau in mechs that combine Voltron-style to take on a horde of gamma monsters.

“Marvel’s Zombies” is to be a four-part event series and is confirmed to have a TV-MA rating.

Very little was said about “X-Men ’97” beyond the characters sporting the yellow-black “New X-Men” Grant Morrison suits. A reel shown does confirm Warlock, Havok, Polaris, and Wolverine among others along with a shot of Jean and Scott combining powers.

Finally there was “Eyes of Wakanda” which veteran storyboard artist Todd Harris is developing with Ryan Coogler as a four-part event series.

Coogler was on hand to explain the series does a “beautiful job of representing the history of those who had to keep Wakanda a secret over centuries”.

The biggest reveal from ‘Wakanda’ was that at least one version of Iron Fist will appear in the series as will the War Dogs. One scene shown sees Nomi fighting across a flotilla.

None of these projects announced new premiere dates.
