SPOILERS AHEAD FOR “DEADPOOL & WOLVERINE”
With Marvel Studios’ “Deadpool and Wolverine” touching upon the multiverse, one of the big surprise inclusions of the film was Channing Tatum finally getting to play the X-Men character Gambit on screen.
Tatum and producing partner Reid Carolin spent four years developing a “Gambit” film at 20th Century Fox, but never could get it off the ground.
When Disney acquired 20th Century Fox in 2019, the film officially died. With “Deadpool & Wolverine” though, he got that chance to play the character even if only for a few minutes.
The response so far has been very good to Tatum’s cameo, and he was asked by Variety last night about the possibility of appearing in a standalone “Gambit” film. Tatum says:
“I sure hope so. From your mouth to God’s ears. Write it into existence, my friend. Please. Of course I’ve said it [to Marvel]. I’ve been saying I want it for the last ten years.“It’s in Bob Iger and Kevin Feige’s hands. I pray to God.”
The comments follow on from Tatum, in an Instagram post last month, thanking Ryan Reynolds for bringing his Gambit to life and saying he “will owe him [Reynolds] probably forever.”
Tatum will shortly be seen as a sinister billionaire tech mogul in Zoë Kravitz’s directorial debut “Blink Twice” which opens next week.
