Netflix has laid out its plans for “Squid Game” with the streamer’s biggest series ever setting a return and locking down a third and final season.
There had been rumors the series was shooting a second and third season back-to-back and that seems to have panned out with Netflix confirming a third season is on the way in 2025 and it will be the last.
Additionally, they’ve set a Boxing Day release this year – December 26th 2024 – for the second season. It arrives three years after the first season became a major global sensation in 2021.
In the second season, Seong Gi-hun (Lee Jung-jae), who vowed revenge at the end of season one, returns and joins the game again.
Will he succeed in getting his revenge? Front Man doesn’t seem to be an easy opponent this time either. The fierce clash between their two worlds will continue into the series finale and in season three.
Also back are Lee Byung-hun, Wi Ha-jun, and Gong Yoo. They’re joined by Yim Si-wan, Kang Ha-neul, Park Gyu-young, Lee Jin-uk, Park Sung-hoon, Yang Dong-geun, Kang Ae-sim, Lee David, Choi Seung-hyun, Roh Jae-won, Jo Yu-ri and Won Ji-an.
To this day, the first season remains the highest performer of all-time among Netflix series, regardless of language, in both views (265.2 million) and total watch time (2.2 billion hours) over its first thirteen weeks of release.
Executive producer, writer and director Hwang Dong-hyuk created the series and is steering it through its second and third seasons.
