In late 2022, HBO’s “Game of Thrones” spin-off series “House of the Dragon suffered an online leak – the first season finale popping up online two days ahead of its intended air date.
Cut to today, and it has happened again – this time a good half-hour of the show’s second season finale has emerged online via social media a full five days ahead of its intended broadcast according to Variety.
The videos leaked onto TikTok on Tuesday night with the clips pulling tens of thousands of views before being taken down just a few hours after posting.
The TikTok account was banned, but the damage was done as the videos have made their way onto other social media platforms.
The first season leak came from a distribution partner in the EMEA region, according to HBO at the time. No word officially on HBO about this one and where it might originate.
One candidate it won’t be is media screeners as HBO tried to head off piracy of the 2 finale by not sending out early screeners to journalists. That obviously hasn’t had any impact.
It’s not that unusual for the franchise as “Game of Thrones” had its share of online leaks over its eight-season run with some episodes even ending up pushed to legitimate platforms earlier than HBO anticipated.
