“Transformers: Rise of the Beasts” and “Creed II” filmmaker Steven Caple Jr. is reportedly being sought to direct the sequel to 2007’s “I Am Legend” which is in the works at Warner Bros. Pictures reports Deadline.
Talk of the potential hiring follows in the wake of a tease yesterday from screenwriter and producer Akiva Goldsman at Comic-Con where he revealed there would be big news soon relating to the sequel that stars Will Smith and Michael B. Jordan.
The trade indicates talks are very early with no deals in place yet. Warners has reportedly met with a handful of directors about the gig, but Caple Jr. has an in having worked with Jordan before.
Goldsman indicated yesterday said that he had already cracked a second draft of the script for the film following a meeting with Jordan and Smith.
He said: “The world returns in a way that is kind of spectacular – an exciting playground for all of us – not your father’s I Am Legend.”
The film will follow the alternative ending of the original, the one in which Smith’s character lives and humanity’s fate seems grimmer.
Smith, Jordan, Jon Mone, Ryan Shimazaki and Elizabeth Raposo are producing.
