Netflix has premiered the trailer for “The Butler,” “The Paperboy,” and “Precious” director Lee Daniels’ new supernatural thriller “The Deliverance”.
The exorcism-themed work begins when, after moving into a mysterious house, a struggling mother in Indiana must face down her demons in order to save her possessed children’s souls.
The film is reportedly inspired by a ‘true story’ of possession, utilising elements from an actual case in the setup of a fictional thriller ala “The Amityville Horror” and “The Conjuring”.
Andra Day, Glenn Close, Aunjanue Ellis-Taylor, and Mo’Nique co-star with Close in particular sporting some wild looks in the trailer.
In January 2022, Netflix won a bidding war for the film rights in a deal “upward of $65 million”. Daniels, Tucker Tooley and Pam Williams are producing.
The film will reportedly be released in select theaters on August 16th and will then stream on Netflix on August 30th.
