By Marvel Studios’ “Agatha All Along” will introduce “Heartstopper” actor Joe Locke as Billy Kaplan, a character in the comics best known as Wiccan and the son of Scarlet Witch/Wanda Maximoff.
As Wanda’s son Billy was just an illusion in “WandaVision” and an alternate dimension variant in the “Doctor Strange” sequel, this marks his true live-action debut and he’s being described as a “gay teen with a dark sense of humor”.
In the comics he’s also had a romantic relationship with the shapeshifting Skrull/Kree hybrid character Hulkling. Thus it is understandable that some young fans want Locke’s co-star and love interest in “Heartstopper,” actor Kit Connor, in the role.
Fan casting of Connor has been swirling for months, especially as the MCU does seem to be lining things up for a potential “Young Avengers” movie. In the last day or so, a report from scooper MyTimeToShineH (via CBM) is now stating Marvel wants Connor for the role.
That reporting has only fueled the speculation already online, but there is no further details suggesting this has gone beyond mere fancasting. Nonetheless the rumor has taken on a life of its own.
Speculation about Marvel casting is expected to remain high over the next few days, both in the lead-up to the Marvel Comic-Con panel in a week-and-a-half and due to fallout from an alleged Disney hack which could leak details on the studio’s upcoming films.
In the comics, the Young Avengers team consists of multiple characters already introduced in the MCU including Hawkeye/Kate Bishop (Hailee Steinfeld), Miss America/America Chavez (Xochitl Gomez), Patriot/Eli Bradley (Elijah Richardson), Kid Loki (Jack Veal), Stature/Cassie Lang (Kathryn Newton), Wiccan/Billy Kaplan (Joe Locke).
Other characters on the team include Hulkling, Vision, Marvel Boy, Prodigy and most notably Iron Lad who is a “time-travelling adolescent version of Kang the Conqueror”.
