Warner Bros. Discovery revealed last month it would move most of Max’s big-budget, tentpole Warner Bros.-produced IP titles under the HBO branding.
That meant projects like “Harry Potter,” “Lanterns” and “IT” prequel “Welcome To Derry,” originally set to be Max Originals, would now be HBO Originals.
At the time it was said the change won’t come into effect until 2025, so shows airing later this year like “The Penguin” and “Dune: Prophecy” would both still fall under the Max banner as part of international licensing requirements.
Well whatever those requirements are, it looks like they’ve been cleared up as both those shows will now be branded HBO Originals and will premiere on HBO as well as launching on its Max streaming service.
“The Penguin” stars Colin Farrell as the titular character as serves as a spin-off and sequel to “The Batman”. Cristin Milioti, Rhenzy Feliz, Theo Rossi, Michael Kelly, Shohreh Aghdashloo, Deirdre O’Connell, Clancy Brown, and Michael Zegen also star.
A new poster for the series is out ahead of its debut sometime in September and can be seen below. A new trailer will arrive in late July tied to an elaborate push for the series at Comic-Con.
The “Dune” prequel series “Dune: Prophecy” is expected closer to the end of the year.
The world of @HBO Original series #ThePenguin will take over the Gaslamp Quarter starting Thursday, July 25 with an immersive recreation of Gotham’s famed Iceberg Lounge, a cast panel, global trailer debut, partnerships and more: https://t.co/RXGWK2qBe8 pic.twitter.com/VpICCvZr5f
