HBO’s “House of the Dragon” pulled in 8.1 million viewers across HBO and Max in the U.S. for the show’s fourth episode “The Red Dragon and the Gold” on Sunday.

That puts it slightly ahead of the 7.8 million Live+Same Day numbers the show’s second season premiere in mid-June debuted to. That episode debuted to a 22% drop from the “Game of Thrones” prequel show’s launch in 2022.

Warner Bros. Discovery says that the second season premiere in total viewership so far is approaching 25 million viewers, with a lot of catch-up viewing taking place over the Fourth of July holiday.

The cast includes Matt Smith, Olivia Cooke, Emma D’Arcy, Eve Best, Steve Toussaint, Fabien Frankel, Ewan Mitchell, Tom Glynn-Carney, Sonoya Mizuno, Rhys Ifans, Harry Collett, Bethany Antonia, Phoebe Campbell, Phia Saban, Jefferson Hall and Matthew Needham.

The fourth episode featured a major dragon battle scene with the ending sequence set to have major repercussions for the future of the show.

New episodes will continue through the month with the finale set to air on August 4th. “House of the Dragon” has already been renewed for a third season by HBO.
